Emily De Molly The Fifth Element - Swatches

I've wanted this polish since the first time I saw it (I can't resist the movie reference and the colour combination) and thanks to Sally Magpies I was able to buy it at last! Emily De Molly is an Australian indie brand of nail polish and one of my absolute favourites, everything they make is just stunning. The Fifth Element is an unusual combination of orange and turquoise glitter in a turquoise jelly base. I used 2 coats.

More pics ahead

Do you own any Emily De Molly? I want all of them!! They're stocked in the UK by Sally Magpies, but unfortunately most are now sold out :( hopefully more will come in!

The Nail Arcade - Indie/International nail polish store in the UK!

Some exciting news today! The Nail Arcade is a new online UK stockist of indie and international nail polishes, and it's opening up for a week long pop-up event from August 4th to August 11th. UK bloggers and nail polish addicts will know it can be a huge pain to source indie/international polishes without big shipping costs, so this is great news for all of us! The Nail Arcade is run by a lovely girl called Rachel and I'm really hoping she gets plenty of support in her venture.

For the pop-up event, The Nail Arcade will be stocking Dance Legend, Smitten Polish, Serum No.5, Cadillacquer, Crazy Polish Lady, Franken Frosting and Jindie Nails. Some really exciting indie brands there, and all easily available to us UK people...I've got a feeling I'll have to sit on my hands!

Rachel has sent me a couple of polishes that she'll be stocking to show you. First up is my very first Smitten Polish!

Wicked, Tricksy, False! is a mix of red and purple hexagonal glitter and square glitter in a black jelly base. This takes around 3 coats to build up to a solid colour on it's own, but I've layered 1 coat over a black creme as it's so densely packed it really doesn't need more than 1 coat. I added 2 coats of top coat to smooth it out.

Wonderfully spooky, makes me think of a witches brew!

Next is Optical Illusion by Dance Legend. I've reviewed Dance Legend polishes before, and I'm a huge fan of their Prism (holographic) polishes, they're stunning! This will be a great opportunity to grab some.

This is under artificial light, a more subtle effect than out in the sun but still beautiful -

The holo effect really pops in sunlight! -

Both of these polishes will be available at The Nail Arcade! All polishes stocked will be less than £10 each, with bonuses for large orders. I think I will definitely be indulging.

To keep up to date with the launch, follow The Nail Arcade on Facebook and Twitter. There is currently a giveaway over at their Facebook page too! (UK only) and remember, the pop-up shop is open from August 4th til August 11th!

Colores de Carol Girls Night Out Collection & bonus : It's Raining Hearts!

Hi everyone!
I hope you're all having a great week so far! Here it's been snowing like crazy and I haven't been able to go to work for 2 days! It would probably have been a fun if I could have spent my days swatching or even procrastinating and watching tv series... I wish!

Anyway, today I have the very first Colores de Carol collection to share with you, Girls Night Out as well as It's Raining Hearts! from her V-Day collex.
If you're unfamiliar with Colores de Carol, Carolina, the owner, is a fellow nail blogger and runs the namesake blog (link inside).

Leggings & Martinis is a black jelly with a mix of turquoise and orange glitters in various sizes of dots, hexes and squares. It's really unusual but being a sucker for black, of course I love it! I think it would reach full opacity on its own at 3 coats but I wanted a more intense look so I layered one thickish coat of Leggings & Martinis over black below.

Denim & Diamonds is a sapphire blue tinted base with blue squares, hexes and micro glitters but also HOT silver holographic squares! This one is meant as a topper so I applied it over Essence The Boy Next Door and I really love them together. One thickish coat plus topcoat here as well.

Bubblegum & Slippers is a light purple with turquoise and white glitters in lots of shapes and sizes : hexes, squares, diamonds,... It's actually the first one I swatched and the only one I used on its own. As you can see below, it reached full opacity with 3 thin coats.

Red Lips & Gold Chain is another tinted base : red jelly wih red and gold glitters. There's just something about reds with gold glitter that makes me want to own them all! One thickish coat over Nicole By OPI Please Red-cycle in the swatches below.

And finally It's Raining Hearts! from the Colores de Carol Valentine's Day collection is a mix of pink and red glitters in a clear base. It's very girly, with the hearts and all but I still love it over red somehow. This is one thickish coat over the previous shot, plus topcoat.

Overall :
I love the concept of the Girls Night Out collection and I think that these all look great together! I had some fishing to do for the larger pieces of glitter but I managed to dig them out rather easily. Carolina has changed supplier for her suspension base ever since she sent me those so you shouldn't experience the same issue with your purchase.
In conclusion, I'll just say that they all make good toppers and I can't wait to see what Carol comes up with next!

Colores de Carol is available is available on Big Cartel and retails for $9 each.

Carol also has a few listing with minis, special deals on full collection and/or limited editions such as It's Raining Hearts! ($7 instead of $9) as well as a special coupon for all Fashion Polish readers!!!

Use the code FASHION to redeem a 10% discount off you entire order ♥

Oh and don't forget to check out her completely revamped bottle design! So cute!!!

Candy Lacquer Sugar Mama - Swatches + Matteified!

Hi! Sorry I've been gone for a few days. I went on a little holiday and forgot to set up posts, because I am the world's most disorganised person.

I have some Candy Lacquer swatches today. Candy Lacquer is, so far, the only indie brand I've tried. I guess I'm just not as into indie polishes as a lot of people! I love Candy Lacquer though.

This is Sugar Mama, which is a clear base packed with tiny pink, white and black matte glitter. I applied 2 coats over Barry M Dragon Fruit. I find with glitters like this that it's much better to apply over another similar coloured polish, because you don't need as many coats, which means you can spread the glitter more evenly over your nail!

Click the jump to see it matteified!

I added a coat of 17 Nail Extras matte top coat

What do you think? Do you prefer it matte or glossy?

You can buy Candy Lacquer from their online shop, which is currently closed until March 24th unfortunately! Just as well really or I'd be buying more!

Candy Lacquer Modern Love - Swatches

This is my first foray into the world of indie (home-made) polishes. I bought this from Sandra @ Candy Lacquer a little while ago and it arrived today. Go look at her shop, she has some lovely things for sale!

This is called Modern Love. Inside Modern Love there's a mix of black and white shapes (bars, hearts, squares and diamonds of varying sizes) all in a clear base. I applied some over Barry M Shocking Pink.

The shapes were a little difficult to pick up, but as you can see I managed (fishing out the hearts was also a bit hard, but that actually became a fun game) and as, I'd imagine, with all polishes of this type, there's a bit of placement involved.

Candy Lacquer Modern Love

Looks lovely when you've finished though! I applied two coats of top coat to smooth it out.

I also tried it out over Models Own Lime Green -

Candy Lacquer Modern Love

I think I might love it with green more than with pink!

Overall I'm quite happy with my first experience with indie polish. Now I just need to try and get myself the elusive Floam. I'm never on time. :(
