It's a Boy!

Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their baby boy yesterday!  Here's the mani I came up with for the joyous event!

Starting at the thumb and going clockwise, the polishes used are SpaRitual Circle of Life, China Glaze Bahamian Escape, Essie Avenue Maintain, L'Oreal Royally Yours (how appropriate!!) and OPI No Room for the Blues; two coats each; topped with SV.

Stamped with various images from plates MJ VIII (full size image on index finger); OB39 (thumb), SdP 66 (crown on pinky - on further down pix), MJ II (hands and wording It's a Boy on index, rattle on pinky), and Big SdP K (full size image on ring finger).  Polishes used were white, royal purple and red Konad special polishes and turquoise Mundo de Unas stamping polish.

I did such a terrible job of lining up the double stamping needed to create the flag on the thumb using the OB39 plate, so had to hand paint in some of the lines....but did better than I thought considering it was my first attempt! Hopefully with a bit of practise, I can eventually do some double stamping better!

Added a few random dots using China Glaze Bahamian Escape and L'Oreal Royally Yours.

Topped with SV.

Digit-al Dozen, Books; Day 5

****WARNING - SEXUALLY EXPLICIT IMAGES ON POST ****

The Day 5 mani is based upon Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James.  I'm posting this warning at the top of the page because my mani is sexual in nature; therefore, if this type of mani/post offends you, or you are on your computer and there are minors present, you have warning before the post is clicked.

This is what I came up with!

Started out with a base of assorted greys; all are two coats and topped with SV.  Starting at thumb and going clockwise, the polishes are Sinful Colors Cool Gray, Kit Grey Pearling, Barry M Grey, Dance Legend #1, and Ulta Concrete Evidence.

Stamped with black Konad special polish using MJ II (ring), LS-03 (index) and Handy 36 (thumb, middle and pinky).  MJ III was used for the chains on the index and thumb.

Added a few random dots using red Konad special polish throughout; the gray on the middle is Sinful Colors Cool Gray.

Topped with SV.

I'm glad that the book challenge gave me a *valid* reason to use the Handy 36 plate as these images are ones I'd usually put on my nails otherwise!  lol!

Here's the other ladies Day 5 mani's.....so much creativity!!!

Have a great weekend....and thanks for looking!

Digit-al Dozen, Books; Day 4

Another mani based upon a book I finished not too long ago....can you guess which book this mani is based upon?

It's a book I've had for a while even thought I just finished reading it recently.  I also have the DVD that was based upon the book too, but haven't watched it yet.  I'm kinda funny when it comes to movies that have been based upon books in that I won't watch the movie until I've read the book.  This is for a couple reasons but mainly because I find the book more entertaining than the movie so I want to read the book first so I'm not privy to any spoilers by watching the movie first.  Another reason is there are so many times I've watched a movie and then read the book only to find so many liberties have been taken in the movie that I'm disappointed when I read the book because I'm expecting something else to happen...or maybe this means I'm disappointed in the movie.....if that makes sense!  Sometimes too I have great expectations in the movie as I loved the book and then, the movie is a let down.....looking at you, The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown...loved the book...the movie was just so so.  So if I know that a book has a movie based upon it, I generally always read the book first and then watch the movie/DVD.  So this means that I've never watched the Twilight movies (I have the books, just haven't read them yet), Harry Potter series (same...but I have to admit I've seen snippets of the movies here and there while my kids have watched the DVD's), I just finished Time Traveler's Wife last month and while I've had the DVD for ages, just haven't watched it...as I wanted to read the book first!!! lol (makes me sound nuts even typing this!).  In the case of the Time Traveler's Wife; I hope the movie is better than the book!

So....did you guess......

Started with a base of OPI Bride's Bouquet (two coats) and FingerPaints Black Expressionism (one coat); topped with SV.

Stamped using black and white Konad special polishes using Apipila 03 (ring and thumb) MJ II (pinky), FUN2 (index) and MJ VI (middle).

Topped with SV.

I plan on watching the DVD of The Help over the weekend now that I've finished the book...I hear its pretty good!

Here's the other ladies Day 4 mani's!

Digit-al Dozen, Love and Heartbreak, Day 4

Happy Valentine's Day!  Well, belated by the time I get around to finishing this post!  I still have so many Valentine's Day mani's to share I thought I do something a little different and post a couple today!

 photo Picture658_zps8d08569d.jpg photo Picture615_zpsc15dda55.jpg

Here's the first one.

 photo Picture615_zpsc15dda55.jpg

Started with a base of one coat of OPI Red My Fortune Cookie and OPI Bride's Bouquet.

 photo Picture573_zpsd975067f.jpg

Added a layer of Lynnderella Ruby Red Ruby and Lynnderella The Snow Cake; topped with Gelous and then SV.

 photo Picture579_zps5c665683.jpg

Stamped with HD-A using Konad red and white special polish.

 photo Picture602_zps7b50c6cd.jpg

Here's a pix of the HD plates** which were designed by Bunny Nails and are available here.  There are some really unique designs and any of the images I stamped, including a few that aren't on this mani, stamped wonderfully!  These two plates are full of themes and you'll want to check them out if you are a theme/holiday kinda stamper like me!

  photo Picture597_zps61f72e77.jpg

Topped with SV.  My only regret with this mani is that the The Snow Cake wasn't whiter; had I realized that it seemed so offwhiteish before hand, I would have picked another white glitter.

 photo Picture615_zpsc15dda55.jpg

Another one I did quick one night when I wanted a change of nails but didn't have much time!

 photo Picture632_zps2b7c1195.jpg

Started with one coat of Color Club Harp On It (yes....one coat!), no TC.

 photo Picture629_zps7b6c03ec.jpg

It dries fairly fast so stamped a couple minutes later with red Konad special polish using MJ II and accent of DRK A.

 photo Picture654_zps51f384a8.jpg

Yes, the alternating upside down hearts was on purpose...just for something different to change it up a bit!  I think this would be cool with the same images but with black stamping polish...another day perhaps!

 photo Picture658_zps8d08569d.jpg

Topped with Sally Hansen Diamond Flash Topcoat.  I used this as I had read that it doesn't dull the holo and have had good results before, but there was a noticeable difference in the holo flash once it was applied this time.  There still was lots of holo though because the polish is so holo-riffic!

 photo Picture647_zps6ef5ba99.jpg

I still have lots of Valentine's Day related mani's to post...I'm not sure if there is any interest in getting them posted now that the day has passed.....I may post them over the new few posts...or they may just show up randomly at a later time, not sure yet!

Thanks for looking!

Digit-al Dozen: Art, Day 3

I have to laugh at myself regarding today's post.  It was decided that those who were doing Jackson Pollock inspired mani's would post today.  So I did a bunch of googling last night for inspiration and found a pix that I thought I could come up with.   When I googled Pollock paintings this morning to post and credit the pix, the pix I was basing my mani couldn't be found, but with a little bit more surfing, I found it, only to discover that in fact the painting I was using wasn't a Jackson Pollock original, but a Jackson Pollock 'inspired' painting.  *head thumb*  Too late to change it, so here's my Jackson Pollock inspired mani based on a 'Jackson Pollock inspired' painting.

Picture096-2

Started with a base of two coats of OPI Bride's Bouquet, topped with SV (no pix as have shown many times before). Then to do the quasi flinging of paints Pollock style (I knew I'd never be able to tolerate the mess), used a stamp to do something similar!  Stamped using Konad red special polish using MJ II.

Picture046-2

Did a second layer of red stamping.

Picture053

Another layer, using Konad orange stamping polish; repeated a second time.

Picture054-2

Added a hot dog to thumb using black Konad special polish using MJ VIII.

Picture058-2

Added a layer of lines with Konad yellow special polish; repeated a second time.

Picture068-2

Finally, after stamping 31 times in total, did some clean up.

Picture076-2

Topped with SV (before doing it, I hand filled in a couple lines on the hot dog where it looked like there was a white dog on it as seen in the first pix ...I have no idea how it escaped getting a few lines but it was sticking out like a sore thumb and I couldn't stand the look of it!)

Picture126-2

Here's the pix used as my inspiration, even though its not a Jackson Pollock original.

Here's the mani's from the other ladies....I'm sure they know the difference between a Jackson Pollock original!

So what do you think....was I close....even though it's Pollock inspired and not an original?

Squiggly Lines

This mani is a little different than what I usually do but did this as part of my ongoing quest to experiment more with layering and stamping.....anyway; here's what I came up with.

Started with two coats of Magnetic Largo Lilac; this is with no topcoat.  Application was good and it covered nicely in two coats which really surprised me as it is such a pale colour.

Magnetic Largo Lilac is one of three polishes in a boxed set called Florida Moods.  They are a trio of pretty, delicate colours.  However, as I'm experimenting more and more with layering for different looks and how they stamp, I decided to layer some glitter on top; after checking out my stash, decided on Icing Glitteratti.

Loved how this layering turned out...makes me wonder why I had never reached for Icing Glitteratti in the past!  Holo!...Glitter!...what's not to love? These two colours seem made for one another!

Even though I loved how the layering turned out, rarely does a mani go by that I don't end up putting on some type of stamping...and again, am experimenting more with layering of polishes and stamping, so when I was searching for images, I seen the squiggly lines on MJ II and thought it would be a good image to still see the base and glitter beneath. The only problem was trying to figure out what stamping polish to use.  I decided upon Konad Red Wine, which is a little odd choice, but it didn't turn out too bad.

I did want to point out that IRL, this polish stamped a deep purple and complimented the base and glitter well....as least I thought so!  However, under the glare of the lights for the photo, it does have a reddish tinge...it is called wine after all! lol!  But I don't think it was this bright IRL.  None the less, I didn't mind it and as I say so often, thank goodness its just polish and can easily be removed anyway!  In hindsight, there are dark purple cremes that may have stamped well that I could have used....maybe next time!

Thank you to Nadia at Magnetic Canada** for sending this polish along with my order of Magnetic Freakin' Violet.  One of these days, I'll get around to showing Magnetic Freakin' Violet...it is freakin' amazing!

Hope you're having a fantastic day...thanks for looking!
