Digit-al Dozen; Fashion, Day 2

When I was looking for fashion inspiration, I tried to find clothes that I knew I could somewhat replicate using stamping plates.  This isn't necessarily what is high fashion or even fashionable, but just some type of clothes that I thought I could kind of copy....somewhat.....

This was the pix I used for inspiration; I have no idea who the designer is although it looks like a nice summer dress worn by Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

Started with a base of two coats of Ulta Blue Streak, topped with HongKong Girl Quick Dry topcoat.

Stamped using white Konad special polish using Cheeky Jumbo 5, Musical Nails plate.

Like any of the stamping images that have a fairly large area to be filled with polish, this image was a little tricky; if you stamped down, there was scraper marks left on the solid polish area, so this is an image that is best scraped side to side or on a diagonal.  I wasn't very careful applying the stamping polish either, I should have made sure all the nooks and crannies in the V's were filled with polish as there was some voids left on scraping as you can see above.  Had I scraping down, they should have been filled, but I scraped on a diagonal and some where missed.  I also knew that this is an image I'd have a terrible time lining up straight too, so used an XL squishy stamper for placement....easier to place my finger in the stamper versus rolling the stamper onto the nails.  But it was hard to line up due the curved moon shape in the design and I was trying to stamp the straighter parts of the image (which is towards the middle of the stamping image) only on my nails  Hopefully this makes sense!  Looks like I did an OK job, although the thumb is a little on the crooked side!

After filling in the most obvious voids of stamping polish with a brush, topped with SV.  I didn't fill them all in, but I got the biggest, most noticeable ones....aka, the ones that were bugging me the most!  And these smaller voids are only noticeable in macro; they aren't noticeable at all in real life.

Here's a closer look at Cheeky Jumbo 5, Musical Nails.

I'm not sure how some of the images on the Musical Nails plate relate to music, but there are some great non-musical images on this plate regardless!

Digit-al Dozen, Books; Day 5

****WARNING - SEXUALLY EXPLICIT IMAGES ON POST ****

The Day 5 mani is based upon Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James.  I'm posting this warning at the top of the page because my mani is sexual in nature; therefore, if this type of mani/post offends you, or you are on your computer and there are minors present, you have warning before the post is clicked.

This is what I came up with!

Started out with a base of assorted greys; all are two coats and topped with SV.  Starting at thumb and going clockwise, the polishes are Sinful Colors Cool Gray, Kit Grey Pearling, Barry M Grey, Dance Legend #1, and Ulta Concrete Evidence.

Stamped with black Konad special polish using MJ II (ring), LS-03 (index) and Handy 36 (thumb, middle and pinky).  MJ III was used for the chains on the index and thumb.

Added a few random dots using red Konad special polish throughout; the gray on the middle is Sinful Colors Cool Gray.

Topped with SV.

I'm glad that the book challenge gave me a *valid* reason to use the Handy 36 plate as these images are ones I'd usually put on my nails otherwise!  lol!

Here's the other ladies Day 5 mani's.....so much creativity!!!

Have a great weekend....and thanks for looking!

It was a thrill to be asked to join the Digit-al Dozen for their monthly challenges and this is my first time participating...unfortunately, I failed because the group does five consecutive daily posts starting yesterday; and for a variety of reasons, I wasn't able to post.  So I'm joining up with the group today and I'll be sharing four out of five days this month!

Here's the mani I came up with!

Oopsie Daisies Wintertime Wonders Review-Part One

Oopsie Daisies recently launched Wintertime Wonders.  These are two of the four polishes in the collex; Keepin' It Kosher and Carols by Candlelight.

DSC05691-2

This is one coat of Oopsie Daisies Carols by Candlelight over two coats of Sinful Colors Exotic Green, which is shown below, no topcoat.

DSC05684-2

Carols by Candlelight simply screams Christmas in a bottle to me!!!

DSC05687-2

I wore this out Christmas shopping last weekend and received soooo many compliments!  It was very eye catching with all the holiday colours!

When I was browsing google reader for updates on blogs I follow, I seen My Nail Graffiti was also wearing this recently and her combination of Carols by Candlelight over Orly Au Champagne is stunning!  To be honest, the first base colour that came to mind when I seen the polish was green, as it reminds me of mistletoe, Christmas trees, wreaths.....but it looks fantastic over a lighter colour as well!

Keepin' It Kosher is another glitter that's part of the Wintertime Wonders collex.

DSC05620-2

I've shown it here over two coats of Ulta Blue Streak (please excuse my boo-boo!).

DSC05610-2

Bottle shot.  Some of the glitter looks black in the pix but there is no black glitter at all in it, fyi.

Photobucket

Of course, I couldn't resist some stamping!  Stamped using white Konad special polish with image D01.

AIS Challenge-Stamping Over Blue Base

This weeks FB Adventures in Stamping Challenge was stamping over a blue base.  This is what I came up with for the challenge!

Picture173

Started with skittles of blue polishes; polishes starting at the thumb and going clockwise are Essie Borrowed & Blue, Sation Bord Girl Blue, Sation Blue Sky's The Limit, Ulta Soho Blue and Duri Blueberry Daiquiri; all two coats.

Photobucket

Added a layer of Pretty & Polished Save the Date.

DSC05558

Stamped using SdP 84 for the single snowflakes on index and ring and Big SdP K on other fingers using white Konad special polish.

Photobucket

I wore this polish for a couple days but just before I took it off, topped with a coat of Essie Matte About You. (Unfortunately, the cold weather is really taking a beating on my skin and despite my best efforts, my skin and cuticles are just so dry so I'm sorry you have to see this in micro!)

DSC05577-2

Most pix I took of this mani, the thumb image didn't show up a whole lot even though it was pretty obvious IRL.  So I took a close up of the thumb; this pix was after mattifying it.

Picture214-2

If you haven't had a chance yet to vote over at Nail Polish Canada's current contest, this weeks challenge theme was snow...you can see my entry and others here; please take a few minutes to vote if you haven't already at voting ends today!

This was my entry......but please vote for your favourite!

Hippity Hop

This was my contribution to the Adventures in Stamping weekly challenge on April 1st which had the theme...no stamping. What a challenge! Do a mani and not stamp it? Maybe it was a joke?! Anyway, I wasn't nearly as creative as the other gals who did some awesome water marbling, freehand designs or decals, which proved fairly popular but I never thought of it to be honest...I just thought I'd do a little layering (with the thought I'd stamp it later and not just post it! ha!).

With Easter quickly approaching, I was eager to use a polish I received a couple weeks ago from Girly Bits called Hippity Hop to start some Easter mani's. Here's what I came up with.

Feel free to click to enlarge for a better view of the shimmer and glitter!
Started with a base of Ulta Cream of the Crop. This is three coats as it was pretty streaky and thin; three coats was needed to get good coverage and to even it out.

This is one coat of Girly Bits Hippity Hop over Ulta Cream of the Crop.

While this was pretty, I was really looking for a more glitter goodness to add to this mani so added a second coat which can be seen below. Now we're talking!  For me, two coats was good...just enough to add lots of sparkle interest while clearly leaving the base polish visible.

Hippity Hop is just full of surprises!  Beautiful shimmer!  Blue, pink, purple, green AND holo glitter in  a variety of sizes.  Gorgeous!  I hope my pix do the polish justice!

Here's a bottle pix.

Hippity Hop is the creation of Pam, the founder of Girly Bits**, a fellow Canadian gal...you can check out her blog ...and order this polish... here.

I always had it in my mind that I was going to stamp this mani and thought this would be a good kickstart to some Easter mani's...but wasn't thrilled with the results. I think it was poor choice in stamping polish which wasn't very dark.

Image plates used were Big SdP A (thumb) Big SdP F (index) Big SdP A (middle) XL A (ring) and XXL Big SdP-1 (pinky) using violet pearl Konad stamping polish which was didn't stamp opaque at all...wished I had have used Sally Hansen Royal Purple Chrome or something that didn't look so wishy washy.  Thank goodness stamping failures are easily fixed with some cotton and acetone...and just another excuse to do my nails again!

Thanks for looking!
