White Space

Back again with the galaxy nails! These were hugely inspired by Kaitlin at the Daily Polish's Tumblr Nails. As we know, galaxy nails are this week's obsession and I knew I just had to try it with the white space after seeing Kaitlin's creation.

I have a few little snippets of news to share today. Tomorrow marks the first day of my summer holiday but fear not, there will be plenty of new stuff for you to read on this blog whilst I'm gone. I've lined up a couple of guest posts from some very talented bloggers while I'm away and I can't wait for you to see all the amazing nail art they've created!

I'm also very excited to tell you that this blog has been nominated for best established beauty blog in this year's Cosmo Blog Awards! It's such an honour to be nominated again and your votes are very, very much appreciated. If you'd like to vote, just click here to go to the voting page and you'll find me in the first category!

1. I started with a base colour of Barry M White and topped it off with No7 Stay Perfect Top Coat.
2. Once my base was dry, I used scotch tape to mark off the sections where I wanted to keep the white showing.
3. One nail at a time I created the galaxy look by sponging on NYC MoMaNYC Lavender Cupcake and NYC Raindrop (tutorial here). I topped the galaxy off with Calvin Klein Blue Wants to be a Millionaire which is a blue tinted holographic polish which works well as a holographic top coat.
4. As soon as I was done with the galaxy on each nail, I peeled off the tape and added the star details.
5. Finally, I added two coats of No7 Stay Perfect Top Coat to smooth things over and keep it shiny!

Snow Themed Mani

Nail Polish Canada is currently hosting a three week nail art contest.  The theme for the first week is Snow and here's the mani I came up with!  You can see my entry and others here...and don't forget to vote for your favourite!

Started with a base of two coats of Calvin Klein Emerald Green, which was one of my recent local polish finds at Winners.

This polish is beautiful! My only complaint was that the brush was really wonky and loose and I had a hard time controlling the polish application. I'm not sure if I got a bad brush or if this is just how the brushes are for this brand as I haven't used it before.

I did this mani right after the family had put the outside Christmas decorations so was in the mood for Christmas if you are wondering why the colours are all Christmasy!  So added a coat of Girly Bits Canadian Eh?

Decided a little more glitter was in order so added a second coat.

Stamped using HD05 using white Konad stamping polish.

Topped with SV.

Another pix.

This adorable snow fella didn't really show up that well in many of the pix so I took a pix of him by himself.

A day later, I added a coat of Essie Matte About You; this made the glitter pop! I couldn't decide if I liked it better glossy or matte.....

Please go to Nail Art Canada and vote for your favourite mani.  There are a lot of awesome entries....I'm always amazed at the talent so many ladies have and equally amazed how there are so many unique designs even thought all the nails are with the same theme! And a huge thanks to Nail Art Canada for sponsoring the contest; there are truly some amazing gift package prizes in this contact which is going to make a lot of gals very nail happy!

Girly Bits Canadian Eh? is available via Girl Bits Big Cartel as well as llarowe and its on sale now at both estores.  HD plates are the creation of a fellow blogger, Bunny Nails, and they are available via her ecrater store here. It seems that the HD01 to HD05 are out of stock but I've messaged Bunny Nails who send they should be restocked in about a month.

Thanks for looking!

Calvin Klein Navy Sparkle - Swatches

I have a haul of Calvin Klein polishes that I got for cheap, because their make-up line is apparently discontinued. I think I got 10 bottles for about £14!

This is Navy Sparkle. Admittedly it looks more exciting in the bottle than it does on my nails. It's a deep navy blue base with blue-green shimmer through it.

Calvin Klein Navy Sparkle

Nice, but not as fun as the bottle suggests. BUT! It takes on new life in the sunlight!

So THERE is the sparkle that the name promised. I knew it was in there somewhere. It actually looks really nice and has a very glassy finish.

If at first you don't succeed, shove your hand into direct sunlight.

Also, anybody up for helping me get some ManGlaze polish? The colours I'm interested in are Lesbihonest and Nawsome Sauce. I can swap for things like Barry M or a Fantasy Fire if you like. Email me! britnails@gmail.com

Valentine's Nails #2

Happy Valentine's Day! Or happy Tuesday if you prefer. I've been slacking lately, between horribly broken nails (I am still sporting pieces of tea bag) and lots to do at home I haven't been in the mood. It was lovely to come back and see some new followers though! :) I think I'll start planning my next giveaway, I just need to clear up a few things with shipping first...apparently the USA does not appreciate me trying to post things to them!

Here is Valentine's mani number two.

I used Barry M - Shocking Pink for the base, then sponged on some Calvin Klein - Hint Of Pink, followed by some Models Own - Pastel Pink, to create a gradient.

I then stamped on a design from Bundle Monster plate 205, using Konad Special Polish in white. I added a coat of Barry M - Iridescence, then finished by slicing up some Fimo roses to make it that extra bit sickly :P

Sometimes I just can't resist a bit of Hello Kitty...

I hope everyone had a nice day either consuming lots of chocolate, or burning your ex's clothes in a bin. :)

Calvin Klein HTF nail polishes

I never really paid much attention to the now discontinued Calvin Klein Cosmetic line; sometimes small nail polish collections are developed and among a few boring shades, there is a gem or two.
That's exactly what happened with Emerald Green and Indigo Blue and  thanks to Jeanette from The-Swatchaholic.com (You can see her original post here), I was able to purchase these two HTF (Hard To Find) on clearance for a ridiculous price on Ebay UK.

Calvin Klein Indigo Blue

Emerald Green and Indigo Blue both had a perfect consistency :
Emerald Green, with its deep shimmer, applied nicely in 2 easy coats and to my extreme surprise the true metallic Indigo Blue turned out to be a one coater.
The only downside being the nail polish brush : synthetic, thick, rigid, not the most manageable but definitely worth the trouble...

Word is out that Calvin Klein will be launching a new cosmetics line in 2012, well this time, I'll pay more attention to it...
