I Fail at Video Making

This manicure is the result of my failed attempt to make a gradient video tutorial. I cannot stress enough how much I suck at making YouTube videos, which is why you don't see that many from me.

I know how much you all loved my picture tutorial so I finally got around to making a video version this weekend but (and you're gonna laugh at me) I forgot to press record when I got to the MOST IMPORTANT PART! DOH! So I ended up with these lovely gradient nails but no video to show for it. Maybe I'll work up the courage to try again soon but it seems like the YouTube powers that be don't want to meet me halfway on this!

My base colour today is an Essie polish and my first Essie polish EVER (except for Matte About You which doesn't count)! I bought a pack of three - Mezmerized, Bordeaux and Lollipop - in TK Maxx for £9.99 and of course assumed that they're discontinued colours. However, when I checked in Boots a few days later, I spotted at least 2 of them in the current range. So there's my money saving tip for the day... check in TK Maxx before you drop £7.99 on one bottle in Boots!

My base colour is Essie Mezmerised and I sponged on Beauty UK Olympic Bronze following this tutorial to create the gradient. All finished with two top coats of Essence Better Than Gel Nails.

Rescue Beauty Lounge GOMM Collection Swatches & Review

Are you ready for the brand new, limited edition, Rescue Beauty Lounge collection?
There's just something about these epurated square bottles and their precious elixir that always makes them highly anticipated and I'm both extremely honored and excited to be able to show them to you today!

"For 128 days, I have been living, breathing, dreaming, and channeling her. The four of my walls of my studio were plastered with her master works—intoxicating me daily with color-gasms."
Ji Baek

"My challenge was to make a porcelain white or to convey bleached bones in all of its glorious opaqueness without making a streaking mess. This was difficult to achieve and Bella took the longest time to perfect, but I was finally able to produce a self-leveling second coat."

Bella is an off-white jelly that, as it should, is clearly reminiscent of porcelain. It applied much better than I thought it would, in only 2 coats but you will definitely have to wait a couple of minutes between coats to allow the first one to fully dry and avoid cuticle drag. The result is a very feminine and muted white.

"Picture yourself standing in a strikingly sweeping and voluminous desert. A shimmery heat wave flirts with your vision, producing huddles of dancing mirages. Your eyes are tricked by a desert hallucination. The heat wave levitates and soars up into the spacious, serene, cloudless desert sky."

Faraway is an absolutely gorgeous blue with turquoise shimmer. It's probably the one that first caught my eye and I ended up loving it so much! This is 2 perfectly even, opaque coats.

"Clusters of brushed desert plants sway mesmerically with the wind. After a thunderous rain that cleanses off dust and sunburns, Abi captures the moment when that first sunbeam appears and flashes them with a warm kiss."

Abi is a chartreuse green infused with mainly silver but also very sparse pink and green shimmer. It's a very nice twist to the regular chartreuse cremes and dries to a beautiful non streaky 2 coats finish.

"This color would be an aerial view of my imaginary Santa Fe—the baked earth tones of ocher with the shimmery, glisteningly ubiquitous dotted greens."

Santa Fe probably is the most original shade in the entire collection : orange with a cool greenish-yellow shimmer and a strong white tinted base, almost leaning apricot. I was a bit scared about how it would look like on the nails but I ended up loooving it, the shimmer adds a whole new dimension and glow. This is, again, two opaque, even, coats.

"Finding yourself amongst a sea of poppy fields, you toss your bike aside to lie down for a rest to swallow and inhale the beauty. Lusciously vibrant petals bob their heads up and down with the flirting wind. As a sign of approval, the glorious, piercing golden sunlight casts a spell and what you see is the electrifying vibrancy of a mysterious red with spots of color aglow with the sun."

Poppy is a vivid coral red with a "hidden" shimmer made of rather large red and gold particles and a strong cool hue. I have been wearing a lot of red nail polish lately and this one truly is a stunner! Oh... And did I mention I only needed ONE coat! It's a very bright and subtle polish, being so opaque, the shimmer doesn't peaks through that much but it definitely adds something. One coat plus topcoat here.

"In the twilight, the adobe casts its nebulous glow, and the mistress is on her rooftop wrapped in a Navajo blanket, walking stick in hand as she watches the first appearance of the muted, twinkling stars."

Ghost is a dark and complex antique bronze shimmer. I'm not really drawn by this kind of colors but somehow it grew on me. Formula was a wonder, perfect consistency, easy to apply and so opaque that it also applied in one single coat. It dried to a semi matte finish that I didn't topcoat, I think it looks gorgeous this way.

"Her Jack*** series totaled six pieces. The way she used greens, blues, and especially that bastardized teal, put me in a hypnotic state. When I actually saw the paintings in person, the oil paint brush strokes that mixed the three colors came alive in certain lights."

Jack is a deep and classy hunter green with a bright sky blue shimmer. I don't think I would have thought of that combination and the result is an exceptionally original and stunning color. Needless to say formula was amazing too, one careful coat below.

Overall :
I really love this collection probably is the most original ever released by RBL and I'm happy to see that quality has once again been a top priority in the formulation of the polishes. If I had to pick a favorite, I'd have a really hard time, maybe Faraway Nearby or definitely Jack in the Pulpit. But Sante Fe Road and Oriental Poppy really hold a special place in my heart too...

Rescue Beauty Lounge nail lacquers can be purchased on the Rescue Beauty Lounge website, international shipping available. The GOMM collection will retail for $20, preorder scheduled for first week of June.

Chanel Summertime Delight Swatches & Review

The Chanel Summertime collection include 3 nail polish shades "appealling to all of your summer colour cravings" :
"The pearly beige Island, shimmering bronze Delight and vibrant orange Holiday".

I've already reviewed Holiday (here), totally passed on Island and must confess that I wasn't convinced about Delight either. But curiosity got the best of me.

Delight is a very sparkly bronzey shimmer with a nice particles color range that applies like a dream, in almost one coat. I used two in the swatch below, no top coat :

I don't know about you but I'm not absolutely fond of it. That's why... I had to mattify it ;-) Here it is with Chanel Mat Velvet on top :

Overall :
I really love the matte version but I can't help but think it might not be worth the Chanel price tag... Would have loved something completely different for Summer this year. Maybe a Chanel neon, glitter or holo? One can only dream...

OPI Serena Williams Glam Slam! US Swatches and Review

Grandstand Finale!
OPI Launches Sizzling Shades with Serena Williams’ Glam Slam! Series in Anticipation of Upcoming New York Tournament
OPI and tennis superstar Serena Williams announce the two final lacquers in the 2011 Glam Slam! promotion, timed in conjunction with the upcoming New York tournament. Glam Slam! U.S. features a duo-pack with two high-shine shades:

Love is a Racket : shimmering red
Pros & Bronze : glittering bronze

Love is a Racket is a beautiful glass flecked tomatoe red packed with pink particles. This color is just so hot and sparkly, a breathtaking red. Formula was amazing, it applied smoothly and evenly in 2 coats.

Pros & Bronze is somewhere between a glass fleck and a foil. It's a bronze / gold / pink duochrome and it's so sparkling that it seems alive, glowing like fire in direct sunlight. This is such an unusual shade, totally unique in my collection. It went on a bit sheer but built up easily in 3 coats.

And... Just for fun, because the other Serena  sets were supposed to be worn together, I decided to show you what Love is a Racket looks like with one coat of Pros & Bronze on top :

Overall :
Another small but great OPI collection, I really love how they are different from what you'd expect from a Fall polish. Totally a win in my book, the only downside being that they're limited editions, grab yours while you can!

New shades in the Glam Slam! promotion are introduced to coincide with each of the four major tournaments, including the upcoming New York tournament in August 2011. As with all OPI nail lacquers, Glam Slam! shades contain no DBP, Toluene, or Formaldehyde, and each includes OPI’s exclusive ProWide™ Brush for the ultimate in application.
Glam Slam! U.S. will be available beginning August 2011 at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for $14.95 ($20.95 CAN) suggested retail for each duo-pack.
